The travelers of ThissioA Journey to Athens after the Greek revolution
Let's become 19th century travelers!
Let's go back in time to the 1830s and walk through the Ancient Agora when it was a central Athenian neighborhood to find out about events that marked the city and its people and secrets hidden in the antiquities.
During the tour of the archaeological site, students arrive from the port of Piraeus to the neighborhood of Vlassarou, as European travelers. They learn about the history and topography of the "lost" neighborhood, about the many "faces" of the temple of Hephaestus from antiquity to the present day and the ancient and historical graffiti in its "stone chronicle". Through puzzle games and observation activities, they meet travelers, researchers of the past and modern conservators. They discover historical testimonies and forms of decay and find out about the struggles for the protection of the temple.
The program folder includes various activities and worksheets for activities in the archaeological site and the class, a timeline of the temple and the Greek revolution in Athens, links to the school curriculum, preparation material, bibliography and useful links.
The aim of the program is for students to become familiar with monuments, to understand the values they express and the dangers that threaten them..
